On the Single European market, technical requirements for product safety are defined by Old and New approach directives, which are basically two different legal philosophies.
The OLD APROACH
The Old approach to the European technical legislation implies that the detailed technical requirements are defined in the legislations, and often requires that the compliance with the prescribed requirements isconfirmed by thestate authority (e.g., ministries, agencies, etc.). The products that are covered with Old approach directives are vehicles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and others.
